Star Parties

Club News and Notes

All TVS star parties are posted to our web site. To spread the work load a bit more evenly, the board has decided to separate school star parties from public ones. For public star parties, including those conducted in coordination with the Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District (LARPD), contact  Phil Waide at 925/ 455-6039 to be put on his distribution list.

School star parties are typically very popular after the holidays. If you are interested in introducing young people to the sky, please consider serving as the school star party coordinator. This position involves about six hours a month of coordination with other TVS members. At present, Dave Anderson has added this responsibility to his many presidential duties. Call him to discuss what the job entails, or to nominate yourself or another member to help with the school program.

Lydiksen Elementary, Pleasanton
TBD, Call or e-mail Dave Anderson for details (see below).

Who says facelifts are only for celebs?
After many fits, starts, and delays imposed by your editor's travel and horse show schedule, the long-promised Prime Focus facelift is complete. Page 1 now accommodates a large photo and the club logo without graphic clutter. Many of the monthly features have new designs for their standing headlines.

At the December potluck, President Dave will poll the group for opinions about our new look. If you would like to sound off sooner or you can not attend the meeting, send an e-mail to Alane Alchorn at circlewing@aol.com.

New officers for a new millennium

Even if, as many of us do, you believe the true millennial change does not occur until 2001, TVS will still have new officers for the new year. Dave Anderson has graciously agreed to serve as president for the umpteenth time. Is this your sixth term, Dave?   Whatever the number, we very much appreciate Dave's ongoing dedication to TVS.

Our new vice president, a gentleman who has also agreed to become the observatory key master, is Frank Rogue. We welcome him to the board and thank him for agreeing to take a seat on the executive committee.

Maggie Halberg returns for her second term as secretary, and Mike Anderson will continue as our treasurer. Both of these    (Continued on page 7)
