Plenary session invitation

As we mentioned in last month's newsletter, the board has tabled many significant discussions for lack of time at the monthly planning meetings. To remedy this situation, the board will convene a plenary session at the church on Sunday October 15 at 2 p.m. All members are invited to attend for all or part of the session, which is expected to continue for approximately three hours. In addition to general club structure and officer responsibilities, tabled topics include the following.
1) Filling the many officer and board vacancies anticipated in 2001.
2) Purchase of a club solar telescope or high-quality solar filter to be permanently attached to an existing loaner telescope.
3) Creation of additional membership categories and incentive awards for donations with dues payments.
4) Select items of TVS logo wear that members could earn or purchase.
5) Improvements to Hidden Hill Observatory and the club 17.5-inch telescope.
6) Possible newsletter publishing solutions
7) Additions to the loaner scope program.

Welcome, new summertime members

In July and August, while many of us were off on vacation, two families and an individual joined TVS for the first time. At the next club function, please introduce yourself to the Donn F. Mukensnable Family, the Alan Harrer Family, and G. Roger Gathers.

If you are reading this newsletter, but are not yet a TVS member, we have good news for you. All membership applications received during the final three months of the calendar year include full membership for the remainder of 2000 and all of 2001. Simply complete the membership application found on the last page of this newsletter, and return it with one year's  dues in the appropriate membership category. Once it has been confirmed by the board, your membership will be valid through December 2001, even if the dues structure is changed  at the board's plenary session. (See following news item.)
