Fremont Peak Star-B-Que
Potluck picnic and viewing through the 30-inch Challenger Telescope at
Fremont Peak State Park on Saturday, July 29, 2000

You are invited to join the Fremont Peak Observatory Association, the California Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Astronomical Association of Northern California for the 14th annual Fremont Peak Star-B-Que -- a great  way to meet other amateur astronomers and to talk with members of other astronomy clubs. Plan to arrive before the
4 p.m. vehicle access cut-off time.

Bring a dish to share and FPOA will provide the hotdogs, hamburgers, drinks and utensils. The potluck begins at 5 p.m., behind the Ranger's house (near the Observatory). Bring an astronomically interesting dish and you may win a prize. Previous winners have included a Black-Hole Cheesecake, Dobsonian telescope, gingerbread cookies, and an astronomically correct Io pizza. Entries will be judged based on culinary ingenuity, looks and astronomical relevance! Please enter by 4:45 p.m. Entries arriving late may be consumed without judging.

If
you plan to attend, PLEASE call the FPOA hotline (831) 623-2465 before Wednesday, July 19, so that enough food will be ordered. Leave a message giving your name, number of guests, name of your astronomy club and whether or not you are a FPOA member. Anyone interested in astronomy is welcome. You need not be a member of any club to attend. Fremont Peak State Park charges $3 per car if you do not stay overnight and $7 for overnight (12 hours or more) use. (Most amateur astronomers camp in the picnic grounds.) Self-serve pay envelopes are provided. Please use them, as the park needs the money. FPOA will also be selling raffle tickets at $1 each, with proceeds going to support Fremont Peak Observatory and the public programs.

Plan to observe standard star party etiquette. Cover your flashlight with a red filter. Never point your flashlight at a person's face. Most people are more than happy to let you look through their telescopes. Please don't bump the telescopes, and never touch any optical surface. Always ask first. Leave your pets at home.
