TVS showered with donations

Past president and long-distance (Long Beach!) member Alan Gorsky is donating his photometer to the club this month. He'll meet up with Chuck Grant at the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference. Future plans for the photometer are undecided, so let us know your good ideas. Thank you , Al!

Don Machholz, who generously donates "Comet Comments" every month, has also given us three books for the library. Read all about them on page 5.

Is Camp Shelly calling you?

If you are a Livermore resident planning to attend the Labor Day (September 3 through 5) star party, please contact president Dave Anderson. We are looking to reserve additional campsites.

News from Hidden Hill Observatory

Observatory director Chuck Grant reports that the road to the top of the hill is newly bladed and in very good condition. As described on page 7, the board is considering a variety of improvement and upgrade projects for our dark sky site. Please let us know your priorities for this important club asset. Chuck will announce a work party later this summer. He anticipates needing help in September, once the board has assigned projects and budgets for the observatory.

   Work on the club's 17.5-inch
Jack Marling Telescope is progressing well. Matte black cork now lines the tube. The primary mirror has been cleaned, and the secondary will be shortly. Focuser reinforcements are cut, and the board authorized purchase of a new deep-cycle battery once the scope renovation is complete.
