Hopkins star party date change

In conjunction with Astronomy Day and the reopening of the Hopkins Junior High School Planetarium, 600 Driscoll Road, Fremont, we have rescheduled this school star party to May 22. The planetarium was built during the Sputnik education boom of the early 1960s, but fell into disuse and disrepair in the 1980s as a result of Proposition 13 and subsequent vandalism.  Thanks to some eager Mission High School students and the Math/Science Nucleus, the planetarium is being refurbished and readied for school and public shows.  (The Math/Science Nucleus is a Fremont-based non-profit organization serving science research and education.)
Club president Dave Anderson is a Project ASTRO partner at Hopkins.  He is also a member of the Task Force that includes teachers, students, and other community representatives.

The planetarium show and star party will be well-publicized, so attendance should be good.  We will need a lot of telescopes.  Those bringing telescopes should arrive by 8 p.m. The star party begins at 8:30. From the Livermore area, take I-680 south to the first Mission Blvd. exit.  Go right (north) on Mission.  Take a left on Driscoll Road.  Hopkins will be on your left after a couple blocks. Please come to Fremont to celebrate Astronomy Day.   (Continued on Page 6)
