One-stop shop and swap

The January general meeting will see the debut of a new club service -- the Shop & Swap bulletin board. TVS will provide 3 x 5 cards for members to use describing their sale, swap, or wanted astronomical items. Cards will be read aloud to the group, and the bulletin board will be available for your perusal during the set-up and conversation, intermission, and post-meeting time periods.

Shameless enticements end this month

As four fortunate club members can now attest, the door prize giveaway is a smashing success. For your chance to win a 2000 Astronomical Pocket Diary, be sure to attend the January 21 general meeting. Two more lucky club members will head home with personal copies of this delightful diary.

Willing to share your secret spot?

Most TVS members have a favorite dark sky site that is convenient and shielded from at least some of our local light pollution. If you are a willing to share the location of your favorite such scope spot, TVS would like to publish the particulars in a future edition of Prime Focus. Remember that the newsletter goes on our website, so please withhold any information about private property.

The board hopes to collect a number of sites that are open to the public and accessible from public roads. We hope to create a special section on the TVS web page that provides location and direction information for those wanting to stargaze beyond their own backyards. Of course, the club's rented dark sky site is open for any member holding a key, but some members have expressed an interest in alternative public sites. This subject will be discussed at the January 21 general meeting.
