Correcting the head count
Inquiring minds may be considering how it is that our membership count jumped by more than 50 this late in the year. Well, the simple answer is that an audit of the membership categories and counts brings us to the revised figure of 202 TVS members. That does include new members Steven Malcolm Anderson (yes, he is the brother of our esteemed leader) and John Swenson.
Additionally, the board voted an honorary one-year membership to the very hard-working Jim Gansemer. Jim is not an astronomer, however he is an ace machinist. He put this specialized skill to use in the service of the Jack Marling Telescope. Under the direction of Chuck Grant, Jim designed and machined an aluminum bracket to correct a structural flaw in the scope mount. Thank you, Jim!
Looking for a new Observer's Handbook?
Look no further than the December, January, and February general meetings. The board approved an order for 20 copies of the Observer's Handbook, 2000, to be sold to members at the discounted price of $13 per copy. This price includes tax, shipping, and handling, and will be honored through the February meeting. So that treasurer Mike Anderson does not lose his mind, please be prepared with exact change, or be willing to write a check that is separate from dues and subscriptions.
Saying good bye is always hard
It is particularly difficult when the departing club members have served selflessly and willingly. Job transfers claimed two of the most active TVS members last month -- vice-president and librarian Chris Cody, and director Jess Squires.
