What's Up in October Dave Anderson

Club News and Notes

Plenty to talk about in plenary session

The press of ordinary business prevents the board from addressing some of the larger club issues during planning meetings. Many significant items have been tabled due to lack of time. To remedy this situation, the board has decided to meet in plenary session next month. This extraordinary session will convene on October 15 at 2 p.m., at a location still to be decided. All interested club members are invited to attend for all or part of the session, which is expected to last approximately three hours. In addition to general club structure and officer responsibilities, tabled topics include the following.
1) Purchase of a club solar telescope or high-quality solar filter to be permanently attached to an existing loaner telescope.
2) Creation of additional membership categories and incentive awards for donations with dues payments.
3) Purchase of select items of TVS logo wear that members could earn or purchase.
4) Improvements to Hidden Hill Observatory and the club 17.5-inch telescope.
5) Possible newsletter publishing solutions
6) Additions to the loaner scope program, including specialty accessories.

Board and officer nominations now open

(Continued from page 2)

two most critical positions open for 2001 are club president and vice president. Dave Anderson, after serving TVS so well for five years, is going to take a break from club responsibilities. Current VP Frank Rogue must bow to family responsibilities, and cannot step into the presidency or continue in the number two role.

We thank treasurer Mike Anderson and secretary Maggie Halberg for agreeing to serve additional terms in those respective offices. The remainder of the club's elected and appointed leadership positions will likely be shuffled once nominations are in hand.

To nominate yourself or another willing member, contact any officer listed on page 2, e-mail the newsletter editor at circlewing@aol.com, or drop a note to TVS at our P.O. box.
