Star Parties

Club News and Notes

All TVS star parties are posted to our web site. To spread the work load a bit more evenly, the board has decided to separate school star parties from public ones. For public star parties, including those conducted in coordination with Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District (LARPD), contact  Phil Waide at 925/ 455-6039 to be put on his distribution list.

TVS seeks a volunteer for the position of School Star Party Coordinator. This position involves about six hours a month of coordination with other TVS members. Call Dave Anderson 510/ 661-4249 to discuss job details, or to nominate yourself or another member.

Key change coming

Members who hold keys to the gate at Hidden Hill Observatory should prepare for a key upgrade and exchange. Observatory director Chuck Grant is researching durable and low-maintenance keying systems. The schedule will be an-nounced in a future
Prime Focus. Be assured that members will have at least 90 days during which to exchange their current keys. All paid key deposits will roll over with the new system. (Key deposits are collateralized by a club certificate of deposit.)

Speaking of money...

Since we are already talking about money, here is the report  Mike Anderson presented to the board on January 24.

Checking   $4,742.27 ($1,181.85 earmarked for subscriptions)
  CD #1        $3,521.35 matures 2/17/00
  CD #2        $2,748.27 matures 4/6/00
  CD #3        $2,175.23 matures 2/27/00

Certificate of deposit #2 holds the club's observatory key deposits against claim by members who surrender keys.

Numerous members made donations of funds or materials to TVS in the last month. We extend special thanks to Chuck Grant and to all of those listed in the library director's report on page 6.
