New board appointment

At the August planning meeting, the board appointed Marilyn "Maggie" Halberg as a director. Maggie agreed to serve TVS as its Secretary Pro Tem until the election in November.

The board voted to thank Maggie for volunteering to fill the secretary position. No doubt, her name will be placed in nomination for the 1999 board secretary position...

Congratulations, Debbie!

Patron member Debbie Scherrer continues to rack up TVS observing awards. Her latest triumph is the acquisition of all 110 Messier Objects. Debbie will join previous award winners when their names are listed later this month on our web site. We thank Chuck Grant and Dave Anderson for compiling and posting the club awards.

Status quo

Treasurer Gene Nassar was unable to attend the August planning meeting, so our published fiscal status remains as it was last month, with a few minor changes.

The board approved the purchase of upgraded newsletter publishing software, at a cost of $215. Therefore our balances remain approximately:

   Checking: $2,400.00
   CD#1        $3,301.20
   CD#2        $2,558.50
   CD#3        $2,023.53

Remember that CD#3 holds the observatory key deposits, and accrued interest on that amount. (Deposits are not financial assets.)

A league of our own

The board is researching a club member's request that TVS join the Astronomical League.
